My most important Chrome bookmark folder has disappeared. This happened to another one of my Chrome bookmark folders a while before - a less important one that I can't remember, don't worry about this one. From what I've read online, it sounds like it's something to do with syncing bookmarks across my devices. Recently, I had it set up so that my iPhone browser (Safari) bookmarks sync to my computer (I never actually saw the Safari bookmarks though).I only recently (within the last 2 weeks) set that up, and now, due to the disappearance of my bookmark folders, I have stopped the syncing across my devices. I though it might be hazardous and it was, unfortunately. Because of the number of bookmarks that I've accumulated over time within the folder that just disappeared, titled 'More Bookmarks (Unsorted)', I desperately want to recover the folder.I lost the folder on roughly April 9 (probably a few days before). I tried the solution suggested in this article , but it was to no avail.
Icons and apps go missing all the time on jailbroken iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches, but this was a very unusual case as iOS 8 doesn’t have a jailbreak yet. Reinstalling App Doesn’t Help But Resetting iPhone Did. Installing the app again was the first step to see if we can get back the missing icon back on our Apple iPhone.
After completing the steps outlined in the article my Chrome data folder looks like this (see screenshot attached) - I have highlighted the bookmark folders. This is extremely important to me. I have years worth of valuable bookmarks in that folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If someone who has experience in restoring bookmark folders can help that would be perfect. I assume you didn't make any backups?
If not I would strongly recommend dong so moving forward, you can make copies of important data to USB sticks/hard drives or a free online storage like One Drive, DropBox, Google Drive, etc. I assume you didn't make any backups? It is a very insightful one.I'll try my best to implement the solution that you have suggested. Although I am not sure if there is the possibility for this to work if none of the available files are from the date (or slightly before) the bookmarks folder went missing?
Or is the date something that could not be entirely accurate?Another thing worth mentioning is that I logged out then back into my Chrome account and my missing bookmark folder reappeared, but it's only about 1/4 of the bookmarks that I had saved in there, so I'm not sure what may have happened here?Again, I'll do my best to implement what you have suggested, but it may be a bit too technical for my skill set. I may need to pass on your comments to my computer technician to see if he can figure it out. If there is some way that you or another user can access my computer remotely or share screens with me and either implement things themselves or guide me on the screen on how to do it that would be great. If you charge money that's fine I really want to recover these missing bookmarks.
Thank you, Triple6.I have lost a lot of sleep over this. Those bookmarks meant a lot to me for both the content and the time that I put into accumulating them. I spent about 2 years gathering all those bookmarks and they were gone in a flash.
I never expected Chrome to do this to me. Sure, I could have 'exported' them, but what an inconvenience to have to do this manually every so often - even then you'll probably still lose some in-between exports. How was I to know this or to anticipate this, I did nothing wrong. This has been an extremely traumatic experience. The more time that goes on the more I notice all the bookmarks that are gone.My two best theories are that Chrome couldn't handle the number of bookmarks I had and malfunctioned or I have a virus of some sort that did it. I am an avid bookmark user - I currently have about 25,000 and that's without the tremendous number of bookmarks that I lost in my largest folder (the one that disappeared on me).
I do, however, have plenty of security though - anti-malware, anti-virus etc. I just don't get it. I guess I don't have any choice but to learn from the experience and move on.Thanks again for all your help Triple6. I really appreciate it. You can go ahead and mark this as solved if you like. I think this is about as close to case closed as we're going to get.Rimon2012.
Click to expand.Okay, I'll mark it solved now. Yeah, fair point. In currently save them in cloud. I don't know I'd probably be more frustrated. I'll look into backing them up now. Thanks for the enlightenment and reality check.
I acknowledge that I was exaggerating the predicament a little in my previous post. I lost years of bookmarks which is why, but again, I can at least take solace in still having my computer folders fully intact and that I still have the opportunity to back them up. I'm not as much of a novice as I seem in this thread. I have, however, learned that I shouldn't assume that anything is going to back up automatically.Again, thank you for the reality check and I also appreciate your previous advice on the thread.
